SAFE ROADS FOR LIFE
WHAT WE DO
We develop and implement rights-based interventions to prevent deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes in developing countries.

Our main focus is to build the capacity of our local partners in targeted developing countries enabling them to improve their knowledge and skills in road safety and in road safety advocacy.

Denmark is one of the very few countries successful in creating a safe road environment and safety culture among its citizens. With our working and living experience here in Denmark, we will share the know-how and lessons learned with our local partners in countries most affected.

Our work will contribute directly to achieving several UN Sustainable Development Goals – to halve the number of deaths and injuries, to create safe mobility for the young and the poor, and to work in partnership with related stakeholders in affected areas.
1. SAFE & SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY
In developing countries where we work, safe and sustainable mobility reduces poverty and increases gender equity. Therefore, it is the cornerstone of our development agenda in road safety. Our road safety programs promote safe school journeys for children and the accessibility of women to secure and affordable transportation options.
2. SAFE SIDEWALKS
Due to lack of sidewalks, vulnerable road users including children, women, elderly, and people with disabilities are highly at risk when they commute by foot. We work with relevant agencies and experts to provide safe sidewalks ensuring pedestrians’ right to safe roads.
3. HELMETS
Our helmet wearing campaign focuses on getting school children to wear helmets. Awareness raising and behavior change among youngsters are done through targeted education programs and youth helmet-wearing ambassadors.
4. SPEED
We work on speed reduction through collaborating with responsible regulating entities, police and ministries. Our speed reduction programs also incorporate awareness-raising campaigns with the public ensuring understanding and compliance.
5. ADVOCACY
Our advocacy strategies focus on raising public awareness, influencing behavior change, and establishing and improving laws and regulations on road safety. We help our partners target decision-makers who have the power to make the requested changes.
6. SAFE SCHOOL ZONE
We work to improve infrastructure, implementing environment medications such as traffic calming measures around the school.
In addition, skills to move safely from home to school are developed and enhanced by targeted road safety activities and programs.
